Uhuru celebrates Eliud Kipchoge after historic INEOS win

President Uhuru Kenyatta has lauded Eliud Kipchoge for making history as the first man to run a marathon in under two hours.

On Saturday, the Head of State said Kipchoge has made Kenya proud and set a precedence for future generations.

On Friday, President Kenyatta had called the athlete on phone to wish him success during the INEOS 1:59 challenge.

“ I am feeling confident, you are in our prayers… we are praying for you that you will be successful but for us it is not the success it is the effort that you put in….. Remember you have 46 million of us behind you. Nitakupigia ukimaliza,” said President Kenyatta during the phone call.

Deputy President William Ruto, who travelled to Vienna for the historic fete, also congratulated Kipchoge on Saturday.

“Your supreme tempo, fatigue-resistance, endurance, compulsion, mental strength, resolve, and tenacity are a manifestation there are no limits when you believe in yourself; undoubtedly the landmark triumph cements Kenya’s position in the globe as an athletics powerhouse,” wrote DP Ruto.

Kipchoge ran a staggering 1:59:40, shattering the mythical sub-two marathon barrier as he completed the INEOS Challenge in majestic fashion on the streets of Vienna.

Two years ago, the world marathon record holder missed the mark by 26 seconds.

However, Saturday’s fete proved his immortality at the Austrian capital.

Kipchoge’s mantra in the build up to the race has been to prove ‘No Human is Limited’.

He is undoubtedly the greatest marathon runner of all time and his latest feat has made him the G.O.A.T
