Uhuru tears down UNGRATEFUL Governor Ruto

Bomet Governor, Isaac Ruto, is a man under siege after President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, dismissed him as an ungrateful and selfish person whose only agenda is to ride on the suffering of the people of Bomet County.

President Kenyatta, who was in a tour of Bomet, described Ruto as a man who has no friends and whose only interest is to advance ‘politics of backwardness and division’.

He said that the Bomet Governor, who served for two terms and the Council of Governors chairman, is known for his ‘use-and-dump’ tactic adding that he used Jubilee to get the position but has now turned against the same party.

Referring to the Governor’s opposition to the construction of Bomet University College on a parcel of land donated by the national government, the Head of State said the move only serves to show how Ruto was against development.

The contested parcel of land had allegedly been set aside by the county government for a dumping site, a move that has irritated the President.

“You are doing something that is harmful to the children of Bomet and all the children of Kenya who will benefit from this university,” said the President.

The President went ahead to lay the foundation stone for the university and asked the Governor to withdraw a case he had filed in court opposing the construction of the university.

“The people of Bomet are in agreement with us. You (Isaac Ruto) should go back to the courts and withdraw the case you filed to block the university,” said the President. He added that the Attorney General will join the case to defend the interest of the people of Bomet.

He further accused Ruto of turning against his teammates immediately after they elected him the chairman Council of Governors.

“You gave us the mandate not to fight but to deliver development like this university and the road we are launching today,” the President told the Bomet residents.

The Deputy President described the attempts by the Bomet Governor to turn the university land into a dumping ground as ridiculous.

“However corrupted your head becomes, how can you not differentiate between the value of a university and a dumping site?” wondered the DP.

The DP also criticized the governor for his vigorous opposition to the project to install modern equipment in hospitals.

Governor Ruto has been critical of the Jubilee administration saying that it has failed to deliver its 2013 campaign promises to the people of Kenya.

The Governor was also at hand to receive the President and his entourage at the Longisa Hospital but the Head of State changed his programme and visited the proposed university grounds before heading to the hospital, close to two hours after the Governor had left.

The political showmanship between Jubilee and Ruto, who has already launched his Mashinani Party of Kenya party, has heightened with the later going ahead to host the opposition Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader, Raila Odinga, who said that he had visited him upon his return from South Africa where he had gone for treatment after suffering an injury following fracas at the Bomet Stadium during a football match.

The Governor has also been seen as an ally of the opposition and has been accused of leading a rebellion in the vote-rich Rift Valley by trying to overthrow the Deputy President as the ‘King Maker’.

Governor Ruto and Baringo Senator, Gideon Moi, have been viewed as rebels despite the latter being a member and national chairman of the Kenya African National Union (KANU), the country’s oldest political party.

Governor Ruto was elected on a United Republican Party (URP) ticket, an affiliate member of the Jubilee Coalition.

He will be defending his gubernatorial seat on a Mashinani Party of Kenya ticket and will face off with National Assembly Deputy Speaker, Joyce Laboso, who has expressed interest to unseat him.

During the Kericho Senatorial by-election, Governor Ruto teamed-up with the KANU team to campaign for Paul Sang though he lost to Jubilee’s Aaron Cheruiyot.
