Uhuru tells Mt. Kenya leaders to support BBI

President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged leaders from Mt. Kenya to support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Speaking in Sagana on Friday, the President said the handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga was for the sake of peace in the country.

“I want to take you back to 2007 up to where we are today. You know the problems we had. Some of you here are still very bitter about what happened. Our work as leaders is to find solutions to issues facing our people. But I never hear some of these leaders speak about these issues. All I hear ni matusi. I wonder when shall we work for our people,” he said.

He added: “Let me work in peace, I know what I am doing, let us work for the people who elected us, handshake is about bringing peace.”

The President further noted that he would meet Mt. Kenya region leaders next week.

He noted that some of the problems raised during his visit should have been addressed by the responsible ministers from the region.

“I have heard what you are saying about coffee, tea, milk and pyrethrum and others. I acknowledge that people didn’t elect me alone. I cannot solve all these problems alone. We must work together,” President Kenyatta said.
