Uhuru to officially open Kisumu port on Tuesday next week

The refurbished Kisumu port is set for commissioning next week Tuesday even as reports indicate that operations at the facility have already kicked off.

MV Uhuru which is a cargo vessel at the port has already started shipping oil to neighboring Uganda.

Port authorities have confirmed that over 800,000 litres of diesel were loaded in 22 wagons from the Kisumu depot and exported to Uganda.

Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyongo has confirmed that President Uhuru Kenyatta, local and regional leaders will be in the county next week to commission the port.

According to Governor Nyongo, the Kisumh port will change the fortune of the region.

The port was reportedly renovated at a cost of Ksh. 3billion.

However, it is part of an ongoing probe by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over tenders were awarded alongside the Lamu and Mombasa ports.
