Uhuru to Sonko: Kazi yako ilikuwa tu kuvaa goggles

President Uhuru Kenyatta has poked fun at ex-Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, saying that despite claiming he was youthful, he was unable to run the city and could be seen at functions, boasting about his job while decked in fancy sun-glasses. 

Speaking at the Sagana State Lodge on Sunday when he met a caucus of Central Kenya Youth leadership, Uhuru said he had attempted to help Sonko severally before his unceremonious ouster.

“I tried to help my friend the other day, ati yeye ni Kijana, I told him if you need help, I will bring someone told help you, wewe kazi yako ni kuvaa goggles and then telling people, oh, look at the job I’m doing,” he said.

The head of state said Sonko was not keen on getting the needed assistance, because he wanted to continue enjoying the monetary perks that came with the position, inadvertently orchestrating his own ouster. 

“I told him if he was not able to deliver, I would bring him someone to help, but he was reluctant because he wanted to continue ‘eating money’, then I told him, if that’s it, then bye” Uhuru added.

He added: “He has now resorted to insulting me, I have no problem with that because everyone can see work in Nairobi headed in the right direction”

In a series of social media posts, Sonko appeared to have flown off the handle, accusing the head of state of wanton failure.

He also sensationally claimed to have been part of a rogue team that comprised ministry officials and the ‘deep state’ in planning and executing several arson attacks that were meant to taint ODM party’s image.

“Mimi nimefanya kazi na Deep State…nimefanya kazi na system ya mheshimiwa Uhuru Kenyatta. Na mimi kuna kitu nataka kutoboa leo, nitoboe ama nisitoboe?” Posed Sonko, before going ahead to add that;

“Sai tumeona Deep State na system wameanza kuchoma magari isemekane ni ma-hustler wanachoma magari. Mimi nataka kutoboa niseme hivi; 2017, wakati kulikuwa na maandamano ya ODM, mimi na Kibicho na Deep State wale wengine na system, tulienda kuprint t-shirts za ODM, tukaenda kununua magari second hand kwa ma-showroom tukazichoma huko Ngong Road ionekane ni ODM kumbe ni Deep State na system.”
