Uhuru uses Madaraka Day fete to highlight Jubilee achievements

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, June 1 called upon Kenyans to maintain peace before, during and after the August 8 General Election.

Speaking during the 53rd Madaraka Day Celebrations held at the Kibiruini Stadium in Nyeri County, the President took time to highlight some projects that his administration has initiated, including the recently launched Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), increasing the number of referral hospitals across the country, increasing persons connected to electricity through the stima mashinani project and building roads.

“Kenya has made huge strides in terms of development projects and economy since Independence. My administration has tried to improve the lives of our people by improving health care facilities, improving water connection especially in Taita Taveta and Mombasa counties,” said President Kenyatta, who will be seeking to defend his seat in the August poll.

In what was seen as the President taking a swipe on opposition leader, Raila Odinga, he urged politicians who will be trounced in the August polls to accept defeat and wait for their time.

“I want to urge with politicians who will be defeated in elections to accept and move on. Do not incite Kenyans if you loose elections. Let’s preach peace putting in mind that elections will come and go but Kenya will remain here and we should live together peacefully,” added the President.

It was the last Madaraka Day the President was leading before the end of his first in office.
