Uhuru’s Jubilee Party hired goons to disrupt Raila rally – ODM

The opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has accused a section Turkana leaders for the chaos that erupted during its leader, Raila Odinga’s, tour of Katilia area.

Condemning the incident, ODM Secretary General and nominated Senator, Agnes Zani, through a statement to newsrooms, alleged that the youth who interrupted Odinga’s rally had been hired by some Members of Parliament allied to the ruling Jubilee Party.

She said that such cases of lawlessness are only witnessed in dictatorial countries and not in democracies like Kenya.

“Kenya is a democracy and all Kenyans have the right to assemble and rally anywhere in the country,” said Zani.

She accused the Jubilee administration of failing to focus on what ails the country but instead causing more harm and divisions by perpetrating acts of violence and negligence.

“Kenyans are struggling with an ever rising national debt, unprecedented levels of corruption, a broken national security system and an electoral infrastructure that exposes us to divisions, hence the actions of the hired youth shows that the Jubilee government is not interested in the welfare of Kenyans.”

The Secretary General said ODM will and shall continue advocating for the rights of Kenyans in the different platforms and continue to address issues of Kenyans.

On Friday, February 18, the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader, Raila Odinga, was forced to cut short his rally in Turkana’s Katilia area after armed youth disrupted the event forcing police to shoot in the air to disperse them.

Raila and Turkana Governor, Josephat Nanok, were forced to flee from the area and abandon the rally which was meant to mobilize residents to enlist as voters in the ongoing voter registration exercise.

The leaders later headed to Lokichar Town in Turkana South where Raila addressed a rally and called on residents to register as voters ahead of Sunday’s deadline and he also accused the Jubilee government of failing to offer solution to the ongoing drought.
