‘Ulipona instantly?’ Kenyans respond to Mike Sonko Jamhuri day message
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Thursday posted a Jamhuri Day message only for Kenyans to turn it into comic relief.
The message from the Governor who was conspicuously absent from the national celebrations at the Nyayo National Stadium was posted on Twitter.
”Jamuhuri Day reminds us of the power of independence and why it’s important for every one of us to fight for our rightful position in society and all spheres of life,” it reads.
Some sympathized with him over his recent arrest while others chose to taunt him on the same.
The embattled Nairobi Governor was set free on Wednesday evening after posting a cash bail of Ksh.15 million.
Reports indicate that Sonko, who spent the last five days in police custody, left the Milimani Law Courts at around 8pm in the company of his lawyers.
The Governor has however been barred from accessing his office and is to refrain from discussing the case on social media.
On Thursday, his Twitter message after his release the previous day elicited mixed reactions:
”Nairobi county governor Mike Sonko is conspicuously missing in this year’s Jamuhuri day,” Mbaruk Mwalimu said.
However, Lepiran Kinanti offered words of encouragement saying: “You shall overcome Governor” as one Davidson Wads echoed the sentiments adding:
“Happy Jamhuri day Governor Sonko. Despite the challenges you’re facing, we can’t forget the good work you’ve done for Nairobi people. All will be well.”
Another Twitter user Kariuki Nderitu challenged the Governor: “Kama wewe ni mwanaume enda Nyayo leo.”
Emmanuel Kipkosgei then quipped: ”You were sick before allowed the bail out by the court, after that I thought you would go back to KNH. Ulipona instantly!”
”Nilidhani walikukataza kutumia mitandao,” said Moreemuty21 while one Chilal said sarcastically: ”We want to come and visit you boss! Uko Aga Khan, Nairobi ama Kenyatta hospital?”
Happy jamhuri day too mweshimiwa, I wish you all the best. Continue your good work to Nairobians and charity to all who are in need countrywide.
