Unexpected Names In The Anti Graft Report

Among the big names that have featured in the list of shame is that one of Caroli Omondi, the Chief of Staff of Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. EACC’s report states that the Kenya Commercial Bank could lose upto 400 million shillings after allegedly reaching an agreement to sell him a parcel of land on Nairobi’s Loita Street, near Barclays Plaza.

Omondi, according to EACC, has also reached an agreement to dispose off the same property to a businessman of Asian descent at 650 million shillings.

Interestingly, after the Prime Minister exited the building and the Deputy President took over, his Chief of Staff Marianne Kitanny would also be implicated in graft.

The Anti-Corruption Commission states that Kitanny is accused of abuse of office and misappropriation of some 200 million shillings. There are allegations that she diverted 100 million shillings from the Legislative and Intergovernmental Relations Office to mobilize MPs in the impeachment campaign of Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru.

On her part, Jane Waikenda, the former Director of Immigration and now acting South African ambassador is accused of abuse of office and giving false information. The commission is analyzing evidence of an inquiry into allegations of irregular issuance of work permit, passports and visa.

Six Makueni County MCAs from Kibwezi constituency are also accused in the graft report. The six allegedly went on a private trip to Dubai sponsored by the area MP Patrick Musimba and on return, conspired with the county assembly Speaker and Clerk to be paid full per diem. The graft body has already completed investigations and submitted their file for review.

The graft report has seen five cabinet secretaries including Charity Ngilu of Lands, Engineer Michael Kamau of Transport, Felix Koskei of Agriculture, Davis Chirchir of Energy and Labour’s Kazungu Kambi step aside for 60 days pending investigations into the allegations leveled against them.
