UNICEF pledges Ksh 25M for Beyond Zero

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has committed $250,000 (over Sh25million) to support the Beyond Zero secretariat host a regional conference on nutrition and early childhood development.

Outgoing UNICEF Deputy Country Director Madhavi Ashok announced the donation when she paid a courtesy call on First Lady Margaret Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi.

The Conference, that will be held in Nairobi, brings together delegates from across the region and will be co-hosted by the First Lady, UNAIDS and UNICEF.

UNICEF will provide technical support to the conference that will discuss the implementation and implications of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Kenya and the region.

Dr. Ashok said UNICEF will continue to partner with the Beyond Zero initiative on programmes that impact positively on the most vulnerable in society.

“Our mandate covers children aged between 0-8 years and we are working on programmes that link communities to the mobile clinics sponsored by the First lady’s Beyond Zero initiative,” she added.

The First Lady welcomed UNICEF’s support in reducing infant and maternal mortality rates in the country.
