United Kingdom, European Union agree on Brexit deal
The united Kingdom(UK) and the European union(EU) have finally come to an agreement on the Brexit deal.
If this deal is approved by Parliament, it could mean the end of a long struggle triggered by the exit of the UK from the EU.
UK Premier Boris Johnson while breaking the news said: ”We’ve got a great new deal that takes back control.”
Johnson also urged parliament to expedite the adoption of the deal by Saturday for the UK to move to other concerns including the cost of living and the National Health Service.
The European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker echoed Johnson’s words describing the new deal as a “fair and balanced agreement for the EU and the UK.”
This announcement was preceded by intensive haggling between the two sides after the UK voted to leave the union.
According to BBC, one of the biggest stumbling blocks was the backstop for the border between Northern Ireland and Ireland particularly to find a solution to keep it open for the sake of British commerce.
For three years, the two parties could not come to an agreement as the UK parliament rejected several deals presented before it ostensibly because they were unfavorable for them.
