University of Nairobi professor murdered in cold blood

Residents in Tala are now living in fear after a University of Nairobi lecturer was Sunday morning shot dead in cold blood in his house by 5-man gang.

Prof Nzuve had returned home after seeing off his friends and relatives who had attended his wife’s graduation party, where as he waited for the gate to be opened five gunmen appeared from a nearby farm and forced their way into his compound.

The 5-man gang then proceeded to rob the professor and his wife of their rings, mobile phones, laptops and other valuables.

They then told the professor to lie face down on the sofa before shooting him in the head and escaping.

His wife rushed him to Kangundo Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Prof Nzuve’s body was moved to the Chiromo Mortuary after University of Nairobi officials arrived at about midnight and insisted on taking the body.

The incident came hot in the heels of another similar robbery last week where a six-man gang armed with four pistols attacked the home of a businesswoman at Kantafu in Matungulu.

The gang reportedly waylaid the woman as she waited to enter her gate and forced their way into her compound where they robbed her of her valuables.

In yet another incident in Tala, the home of a retired soldier, Sila Mutiso, was attacked by a gang of six men armed with four pistols.

According to reports, Sila’s hands was tied up with barbed wire using pliers as the gang proceeded to rob him and his wife of their valuables.

According to Sila, three gang members remained outside while three others entered the house, with one of them remaining in the bedroom with him and his wife.

He was able to overpower gangster before locking the door and using a table to keep it shut.

Mr Sila narrated that the gang shot through the door believing they would kill the two before they escaped.

The residents now believe that it is the same gang that has been harassing them.

On Thursday, Tala residents had taken to the streets protesting the rising cases of insecurity in the area.

The residents also accused police of harassment and colluding with the criminals in committing robberies.

Speaking at the professor’s home where he had gone to condole with the family, Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama urged police to investigate the incident and bring those involved to book.

He said he was not at peace knowing that Tala residents are living in fear and accused police of reluctance in doing their jobs and leniency in fighting crime.

He lamented that over two weeks have passed since the robbery at Sila’s house yet no investigations have been carried out.
