UoN orders suspended students to collect letters

The University of Nairobi has issued a public notice to suspended students to collect their letters from the Registrar of Student’s office.

The 217 students were implicated in acts of violence that erupted after the students went on strike damaging property within and outside the institution.

The chaos erupted after a section of the students contested the re-election of Babu Owino as the SONU chair for the fourth term. This led to the indefinite closure of the university.

The university’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mbithi said the move to suspend students is part of disciplinary measures to restore sanity at the Institution of higher learning.

“The University of Nairobi has initiated disciplinary process against the students for participating in student unrest and destruction of public property,” he stated.

“They are, therefore, required to collect their suspension letters from the Registrar, Students’ Affairs, latest by Friday, April 15th, 2016. The details and particulars of the students involved can also be accessed from the University website and respective student’s email addresses.”

The suspended students have been asked to appear before the University’s disciplinary committee from Tuesday next week till Friday.

Amongst the students who will appear before the disciplinary panel is Mike Jacobs who was seeking to replace Babu Owino as the chairman of the students’ body; SONU.
