UoN received Sh100m to fund new innovations

The University of Nairobi will receive additional funding of Sh100 million annually to fund new inventions and to host an exhibition to showcase its innovations yearly, President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced.

Speaking when he officially opened UoN Nairobi Innovation Week, President Kenyatta challenged other universities to showcase their innovations in fields such as agriculture and health.

“Innovation is the engine that drives entrepreneurship; and it is entrepreneurship that opens up opportunities for our young people and creates the jobs that sustain and reward them,” said President Kenyatta.

The head of state is now calling on government agencies and the private sector to support innovators by buying their products and services, lauding steps by University of Nairobi to promote innovation.

Speaking at the event, ICT Cabinet Secretary Joseph Mucheru pledged government support for innovators and universities in advancing technology. At the same time, UoN Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi said the Nairobi Innovation Week will be boosted to showcase more innovations.
