UON students arrested for robbing Kabete residents, ‘gun’ recovered

Five University of Nairobi students suspected of violently robbing residents of Lower Kabete in Kiambu County were on Tuesday morning arrested and a homemade gun recovered.

The five were reportedly ambushed by police officers while fighting over a loot at a rental room in Lower Kabete area where they have been terrorizing residents and robbing them of valuables.

Residents say the gang had robbed several homesteads at night and loud bangs were to be heard hours later, prompting them to notify the police who acted swiftly.

The students were allegedly found high on drugs.

Police officers recovered a homemade pistol, stones of bang and several crude weapons from the house belonging to the students from Nairobi University Lower Kabete Campus.

Kikuyu OCPD Birgen Kiptoo said police are investigating the two fourth year and two second year students, all pursuing business studies, over the allegations.

He also called on residents who have been robbed to record statements at the Kikuyu Police station and volunteer any information that will further aid in the investigations.
