Barack Obama arrives in Kenya

Former US President Barack Obama has arrived in Kenya.

He is currently at State House Nairobi with his sister Dr. Auma Obama for a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Welcome to Nairobi Barack Obama. President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto have just received him at State House,” PSCU said on Twitter.

Obama is expected to meet Opposition leader Raila Odinga at Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel, Nairobi at 4pm.

He will then head to his father’s ancestral home in Kogelo on Monday where he will open a sports centre under Sauti Kuu Foundation.Citizen TV will cover the event live.

In a press release, the Gina Din Group said the facility that is run by his sister will have an international standard-size football pitch, other ball game courts and a youth vocational centre.

This is the third time he is visiting his father’s ancestral home and the first time since 2006.

Obama will then leave for South Africa the next day where he will give a keynote speech in honour of the late anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela at the Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg.

Obama was last in Kenya in July 2015, the only time he visited the country as president, to attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, an initiative of the American Presidency.
