Uproar over fuel guzzlers at Nyandarua ECD classroom launch

Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia is the latest politician to be on the receiving end of ridicule from Kenyans on social media.

Pictures of fuel guzzlers outside a mabati (iron sheet) roofed classroom began doing rounds on Twitter with some questioning the priority of county officials.

Some wondered how the leaders were blatantly parading their huge cars in the name of “launching” an Early Childhood Development (ECD) facility.

“Francis Kimemia & his Nyandarua County entourage drove here with a whooping eight V8 engine land cruisers to launch a mabati ECDE building,” Michael Mburu said on Twitter.

A tweet from one Duncan Makori elicited even more comments as some questioned how much the classroom had cost the county.

Others cited the recent calls for a referendum where proposals have been made to scrap the devolved system of government.

This is not the first time that the governor has attracted criticism online.

In March this year, Nyandarua residents questioned his absence from the county causing another social media uproar.

This to which local media reported the Governor’s response as: “They take me for a fool and a coward, but I will not dance to intimidation or blackmail.”

He went on: “They can sing and dance on the streets, invite the media to make all sorts of allegations, but I am a godly man offering godly leadership. I was born weighing nine kilos and the record stands to date.”
