Uriri Secondary School dormitory goes up in flames

A dormitory at St. Pius Uriri Secondary School in Migori County on Sunday night went up in flames destroying property of unknown value.

Confirming the incident, Uriri sub-county Police Commander Peter Njoroge said the fire started at around 8:30pm when learners were still in class for evening prep.

According to the police boss, the inferno completely razed down the 92-capacity dormitory but that no casualties were reported.

Mr. Njoroge added that the fire was put out using fire-fighting equipment borrowed from the nearby Sony Sugar Company.

He further stated that the police in collaboration with the school had began investigations into the fire, adding that media reports that the students burnt down the dormitory after they were denied a chance to watch the AFCON match between Kenya and Algeria were unsubstantiated.
