US Embassy warns of planned terror attack on major Nairobi hotel
The US Embassy in Nairobi has issued a terror alert warning that terrorist groups may be planning an attack on a major hotel in Nairobi.
According to the US Embassy, the said hotel is “popular with tourists and business travelers.”
“Terrorist groups may be plotting an attack against a major hotel in Nairobi. The exact hotel has not been identified, but it is believed to be a hotel popular with tourists and business travelers,” reads the alert.
Members of public have been advised to exercise increased vigilance when visiting or staying at hotels in the Nairobi area.
“If staying at a hotel, be aware of the hotel’s evacuation plan. Plan ahead of time how you would exit the hotel in case of an emergency,” adds the alert.
“Review your personal security plans. Be aware of your surroundings. Monitor local media for updates,” it adds.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai has called for calm, saying the National Police Service has enhanced security measures across the country and increased border surveillance.
He has, however, urged Kenyans to be extra vigilant and share with the police and other security agencies information on any suspicious activities.
“Following the enhanced security measures across the country, Kenyans are urged to go on with their normal day to day activities without any fear… Members of public are urged to report anything suspicious through our toll free line 999, 911 and 112,” said the police boss in a statement.
