US First Lady Melania Trump to visit Kenya in October

US First Lady Melania Trump is set to visit Kenya in October this year as she tours Africa on her first major solo trip abroad.

Speaking on Wednesday, Ms. Trump said she will be visiting four “beautiful and very different” African countries which include; Ghana, Malawi, Kenya, and Egypt.

“October 1st will mark my first day of my solo visit to four beautiful and very different countries in Africa; Ghana, Malawi, Kenya, and Egypt, all of which have worked alongside the US and our partners to make great progress in overcoming some of their biggest challenges,” she said.

Melania confirmed the countries she will be visiting at a reception for the spouses of dignitaries from around the world during the annual United Nations General Assembly session in New York City.

She first announced her plans to visit Africa in August this year, saying it would be her first time in the region.

“This will be my first time traveling to Africa and I am excited to educate myself on the issues facing children throughout the continent, while also learning about its rich culture and history,” the first lady said in a previous statement.

“We are a global society and I believe it is through open dialogue and the exchanging of ideas that we have a real opportunity to learn from one another.”

Melania’s trip to Kenya will come about a month after US President Donald Trump hosted President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta at the White House, where the two first ladies also held a private meeting.
