Use section of campaign cash to alleviate hunger, politicians told
Politicians should use a section of their finances to help hunger stricken families, Ahadi Kenya Trust Foundation CEO, Dr. Stanley Kamau has said.
His statement coming as political parties ready themselves for countrywide rallies ahead of the August polls, Dr. Kamau asked politicians to use some of their campaign cash to help alleviate hunger.
Speaking as he took part in the Chakula Mashinani food aid drive in Lamu County, Dr. Kamau asked politicians to show true leadership by meeting people’s needs.
“This is a political season, all politicians including those who won the primaries and those who lost should know that Kenyans are hungry, don’t spend all the funds on campaigns as the common mwananchi is starving. Use part of your campaign money in buying food for them,’’ said the Dr. Kamau.
The initiative gave each family a week’s supply of food.
Residents were thankful for the relief, though they complained that their children have suffered greatly because of the drought. They went on to lament that children from villages in Bargoni had missed out on school because of the biting famine.
