Use technology to enhance mission, Ruto to Church

Deputy President William Ruto has challenged Church leaders to make use of technology to enhance its mission.

Ruto said the church should not fear technology but instead use it to influence people to follow Christ.

Speaking during the official opening of the African Biblical Leadership Initiative (ABLI) at the School of Government, Lower Kabete in Nairobi on Tuesday, Ruto said Churches should consider using technology in the work of proclaiming the Gospel.

“Social media is transforming societies and it will not be possible to shut it because of its negative impacts on the society. Churches should make use of the positive part of it for the benefit of its mission of preaching the Gospel,” said the Deputy President.

He said technology for instance could help the Bible Society of Kenya (BSK) come up with translated versions of the 11 communities in the country that are yet to get Bibles in their respective dialects.

Present were Nairobi Governor, Dr Evans Kidero, ABLI chairperson, Mary Khimulu, ABLI Chief Executive Officer, Prof Paul Williams, BSK chairman, Prof Mumo Kisau, ABLI Moderator, Rev Samuel Kobia, some MPs from South Sudan and Director Kenya School of Government, Dr Ludeki Chweya.

According to Ruto, technology allows a greater sense of community that does not demand proximity adding that it is in social media where younger generations are interacting.
