Value addition key to dairy sector success, Baringo leader says

Baringo’s Members Co-operative Society Chairman Isaac Tubei has said that the only way to boost dairy farming is to engage in value addition, which involves massive production.

The chairman was speaking to Citizen Digital just days after Baringo County Governor Benjamin Cheboi launched the construction of a milk processing plant in Eldama Ravine.

Tubei noted that as the farmers wait for the plant to be completed next year, the society has begun value addition of their milk, adding that the dairy sector in the county would experience growth following the completion of the plant.

Tubei, who is also a member of the Baringo Marketing Co-operative Society limited, intimated that they sell 200 litres of yogurt per day at Ksh.100 per litre while raw milk goes for Ksh.30 per litre.

Member’s Co-operative Society is the leading milk producer in Baringo County with 9,000 liters of milk produced daily.
