Varsity student in police terror list surrenders

Moi University student, Salad Tari Gufu, on Thursday morning (July 20) surrendered to the police in Huruma, just a day after police had placed a Ksh 2 million bounty on his head over terror activities.

Pictures of Salad and his brother, Gufu Tari Gufu, were published on local dailies Wednesday, with the police claiming the two had connections with the outlawed Al Shabaab group.

Salad’s family, who made their way to Huruma Police Station Thursday morning, denied he is a terrorist as claimed by police.

According to police, Salad, who is the head of Muslim students at Moi University, had operated a studio in Marsabit and sold DVDs containing sermons of radical Muslim preachers.

He was also linked to a terror cell at Moi University main campus in Eldoret before it was dismantled in 2016.

Salad Tari Gufu will be held at the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) as investigations continue.

Gufu Tari Gufu, a brother to Salad allegedly ran to Somalia in 2013 from Marsabit County.
