Varsity students warn of countrywide strike

Students from Moi and Kisii Universities are urging the government to end the ongoing lecturers strike warning that they will organise a countrywide demonstration if the stalemate continues.

They claim that with no classes to go to, some students have immersed themselves in drug abuse, theft and cohabitation, to bid their free time.
“By the time we resume studies, most ladies will be expectant and there may be a possibility of high number of abortions because they won’t want another disruption to their learning,” they said.
Kesses MP Swarup Mishra reacted to the student’ sentiments saying that university lectures and the Government must agree to dialogue and come up with a solution to end the strike.
Dr Mishra urged the two parties to put aside their differences and allow students to resume their studies.
The lecturers strike entered its 5th week and learning in public universities across the country remains paralysed despite Education CS Amina Mohamed ordering them to return to work immediately.
