Veteran politician John Keen calls for peaceful polls

Veteran Maasai politician, John Keen, has called for peaceful elections in 2017.

The former Assistant Minister in the retired President Daniel Arap Moi’s government, is, however, optimistic that the country will hold a free, fair and peaceful election next year even as the government continues with its plan to reform the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Speaking at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi on Wednesday, September 28 when IEBC Commissioner, Thomas Letangule and elders and youth leaders from Maa and Ilchamus communities visited him, Keen said that the current IEBC Commissioners should hand over office peacefully to the yet to be hired Commissioners.

“Mr Letangule and your team, you have played your part, now let the other people come in and conduct next year’s elections and I believe that if you hand over the office smoothly, those people will also conduct the elections in 2017 peacefully,” said the veteran politician.

Keen also called for unity among the Maasai community and assured them that he was recuperating well after his admission at the hospital.

CORD leader, Raila Odinga, is among high-profile dignitaries who have visited the ailing retired politician in hospital.
