VIDEO: Congolese musician Koffi Olomide arrested

Congolese singer Koffi Olomide was arrested outside Royal Media Services Ltd premises Friday night for allegedly assaulting one of his dancers when he landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Friday morning.

He was driven off in his top-of-the range Porsche Cayenne with police escort; his dancers on tow with police escort as well.

Authorities from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport criminal investigation wing followed the musician to Communication Centre, where he was appearing for an interview on Citizen TV’s Citizen Weekend Show in a bid to share his side of the story.

The story had elicited an outrage on social media with sections of the public and leaders calling for his deportation and cancellation of his Saturday, July 23rd concert. In the interview, Olomide defended himself against the accusations claiming he was not assaulting but protecting his dancer called Pamela from an alleged pick pocket.

Pamela, speaking in French, corroborated Olomide’s account, denying she was violated. She went further to peck Olomide’s cheek; perhaps to show that there was no bad blood between them.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet ordered police to take immediate action against the Congolese musician and that investigations be concluded fast.

It is not clear yet whether Olomide’s much anticipated performance at the Bomas of Kenya will take off as scheduled.
