Video: Flooded Kisumu airport as rains pound lakeside city

Pictures and videos have emerged showing a flooded Kisumu airport lounge after heavy rains wreaked havoc.

The airport that underwent a Ksh.5billion upgrade within three years was on Friday engulfed in water forcing passengers to stand on the sideline of the lounge.

Several planes also had trouble landing on the runway in an evening characterised by strong winds and foggy weather.

Was a challenge both into and out of Kisumu Airport this (Friday) afternoon/evening,” one traveller said on Twitter.

Kenya Airways was among those affected which saw pilots forced to turn the planes back to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.

Stranded travellers also took to social media criticising authorities for the flooded airport lounge.

This is an international Airport wapi @PDUDelivery (President’s Delivery Unit#Kisumucity,” one Bob Mbori said.
