VIDEO: Gov’t cancels free maternity deal with counties

A showdown is looming between county governors and the central government following a directive from the health ministry that reversed funding to free maternity programme through the counties and instead re-directed the funds to the national hospital insurance fund – NHIF. The program me that is set to be launched next week will deny counties a total of four billion shillings allocated in this financial year, with health PS Nicholas Muraguri saying the decision was arrived at after a wide consultation.
