VIDEO: Land buying Kenya’s biggest challenge to infrastructural devt
Speculative land buying is a critical barrier to many of the mega-infrastructure projects Kenya’s government intends to execute. The cost, in time and money, was cited as one of the reasons why Uganda opted to build a pipeline through Tanzania, instead of Kenya. Similarly, speculative land purchases and lengthy compensation has held up the development of the Lamu Port project. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Secretary General Mukhisa Kituyi is of the opinion that the country needs to prioritize development, over personal greed.
