Ivory trade is worth billions of dollars and feeds demand for ivory products in Asia, Europe, US and elsewhere.
It is the primary reason that the elephant population worldwide is diminishing at an alarming rate. In Africa, it is estimated that more than 30,000 elephants are killed for ivory every year. Local communities are essential in the fight against poaching.
However, they often find themselves tangled in the illegal activity. But more often than not poachers from the local communities have nothing to show for it.
