Vihiga MCAs withdraw impeachment motion against Governor Ottichilo

The planned impeachment motion against Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo has been withdrawn.

This comes after the Vihiga Council of elders and religious leaders prevailed upon the County Assembly leadership to consider dialogue with the executive for the benefit of Vihiga residents.

Majority Whip at the County Assembly Victor Ijaika Bulemi confirmed the withdrawal saying the County Assembly leadership through the Speaker has decided to give dialogue a chance.

“I can confirm that the impeachment motion has been withdrawn, I can not talk much about it because all the the processes have to be done first,” said Ijaika.

Members of County Assembly had planned to impeach Governor Ottichilo but the County boss sought a court order stopping the Assembly from discussing the motion for he had not been accorded a chance to defend himself on the alleged charges against him.

Wodanga MCA, who was supposed to move the motion, however, says the leadership is still discussing on modalities of creating a truce between the Assembly and Executive.

On Saturday, at a burial ceremony of Dickson Chore in Sabatia Sub County, Vihiga Dovernor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo dared the members of county assembly to table the motion terming their allegations as frivolous and malicious.

The ward representatives were blaming the governor for delayed payment of pending bills and salaries among other issues.

On his part Ottichilo argued that the National Treasury is the one to blame for the delayed disbursement of funds.

“We have done our part in requesting for money. We have written countless letters to treasury and now we are just waiting for the money,” emphasized the county boss.

It is alleged that 2022 politics are at the centre of the impeachment drama with a section of Vihiga leaders planning to ouster the governor.

Of 38 MCAs, 23 had signed the impeachment motion that was due for tabling.

However, last week 15 members of the county assembly had vowed to stand with the Governor.

“Bring it on. Ottichilo is not going anywhere until 2027,” said Tom Atingo, Luanda Township representative.
