Village elder murdered, house set on fire

A 75-year-old village elder was on Thursday murdered after her house was set ablaze by unknown people in an incident that puzzled residents of Othaya in Nyeri County.

Zipporah Wairimu died after her bedroom was set ablaze by arsonists who fled after her grandson raised an alarm at around 2 am.

Narrating the ordeal to the press, Geoffrey Mwangi, a grandson of the deceased said that they were asleep when at around 2 am they were woken by noises of someone opening the main gate.

He told Citizen Digital that when he ventured out he heard his grandmother’s cries but was unable to save her due to the intensity of the inferno.

Othaya police boss, Joseph Mwika, who visited the scene said police have launched investigations into the incident, which they suspect to be arson, but added that they could not rule our an electric fault.

He urged residents to volunteer any information on the unfortunate incident.
