Villagers find 19 bodies exhumed by hyenas in Naivasha

Residents in Longonot Village in Naivasha were on Monday morning shocked to find 19 bodies exhumed from a nearby cemetery and eaten by hyenas.

The residents blamed the incident on grave-diggers and the undertaker whom they say do shoddy work by digging shallow graves.

“These bodies were buried recently but the people only dug the grave to four and half feet,” said a resident.

According to the residents, the shallow graves are dug by drunk men who do the duty at night in order evade paying the graveyard fee.

“These men come at night and just dig the graves yet we have paid taxes to have the cemetery attended to, but a few people act irresponsibly and cause us all distress,” said the resident.

The residents now fear that the bodies could lead to spread of diseases as their chicken and dogs eat the remains.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the residents claimed such an incident took place in the 1980s, and are now blaming the county government for failing to take care of the cemetery.

It is suspected that the hyenas stray from the nearby Longonot Park.
