Visa Oshwal Community boosts COVID-19 Fund with Ksh.25M donation

The Visa Oshwal Community (VOC) presented their third donation to the emergency response COVID-19 Fund to help cushion vulnerable Kenyans.

Members heeded the government’s call and donated foodstuffs worth Ksh.25million.

Items donated include maize meal flour, rice, beans, green grams, porridge flour, sugar, salt, cooking oil, juice, snacks, bar soap, tissue rolls and sanitary pads.

Kenyans have been urged to offer more donations to help people whose lives have been disrupted by the COIVD-19 situation.

Narendra Raval, who is a member of the Board for the emergency response fund, said donations are almost at Ksh. 1billion.

According to him, they expect Ksh.600million from the private sector and more from government.

He said 8.5million people will have to be fed if a full lockdown is imposed in the country.

“There are 2 million people to feed in Nairobi today,” the Devki Group Chairperson said.

He also said by the end of this week they will inform the public on how to donate online.

“We request members of the society from all walks of life to partner with VOC in this difficult time for Kenyans. Together we shall overcome. To all our donors, we are very grateful and may God bless you all abundantly to continue this act of charity.”

Donors and well-wishers based in Nairobi are to reach out to the Kenya COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund headquartered at KICC.

The Fund is headed by Jane Karuku and Kennedy Kihara who are Chairperson and Secretary respectively: they can be reached on 0772 429949.

At the county level, those willing to help will be required to liaise with the county governments or commissioners who will in turn oversee distribution.
