Education officers from Voi in Taita Taveta County have linked pastors and other unknown people to the rising cases of early pregnancies in the county.

According to records at the Ministry of Education Voi branch, the number of school-going girls has significantly dropped as a result of high teen-pregnancies.

Education office’s records showed that few years back, the number of school going girls was twice higher than that of boys but that is not the case presently.

Voi Education officer Kennedy Machora noted that cases of school-going girls being impregnated by pastors has increased significantly.

Machora said that in three months, his office received three cases of pastors who allegedly impregnated school girls.

He added that he is working closely with local administration to investigate the matter.

The Ministry of Education has called on parents to take good care of their children especially girls and follow up closely when they ask for permission to attend bible studies with pastors outside their homes.

Machora appealed to parents to closely monitor what their girls do during the holiday.

This comes just two days after a pastor from Jerusalem Church was arrested by villagers in Zonwani village, Voi sub County for defiling a 16 year-old girl.

The pastor then revealed a letter he wrote to admit that he committed the beastly act.
