Voi Truck Drivers Protest Poor Working Conditions

The long distance trucks drivers from Agility International Logistics Company are now blaming the Ministry of labour officers for siding with the company instead of listening to their grievances.

The drivers claim the company has declined to sign return a to work formula and that some had been laid off on flimsy grounds.

According to the drivers they have been presenting their grievances to labour officers since they went on strike two weeks ago at Canaan area in Voi but no one seems to listen to them.

COTU INTERVENTION

Speaking at Canaan area in Voi, the drivers say they had decided to park the trucks on the roadside as they seek the intervention of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions.

Police have visited the area to ask drivers to continue with their journey in vain as they guard the trucks.

Kenya long distance truckers’ union general secretary Mr Nicolas Mbugua is calling on the government to intervene in the matter.

Agility Logistics Company’s management visited the striking drivers to request them to return to work but in vain.

Meanwhile, the company’s lawyer says the company does not recognize the union that the drivers joined, adding that the union is being led by busy bodies whose main agenda is to extort money from drivers.
