Waiguru backs down on threat to sue King Kaka over Wajinga Nyinyi

Kirinyaga Anne Waiguru has changed tune on her intentions to sue rapper King Kaka over his latest release: Wajinga Nyinyi.

She accused him of faking reports of assassination attempts on his life and the summon to the office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

“I recognize that he’s a confused attention seeking young man. I have therefore made the decision not to proceed with the Kingkaka suit,” she said on Twitter.

The Governor further alleged that the hard-hitting song Wajinga Nyingi was a tool for certain leaders to settle political scores.

“As I have chosen in previous occasions of this nature, I will contend with their masters,” she added.

Meanwhile, advocate Nelson Havi released a statement on behalf of King Kaka stating that Wajinga Nyinyi was neither defamatory nor injurious.

“As an artist, our client is duty bound to highlight issues of public interest and make fair comments on the same. In exercising his freedom of expression, our client was referring to the National Youth Service scandal in which Ksh. 791million by the Government and the Republic of Kenya through the Ministry of Devolution and Planning,” the letter reads.

“Your client is in no doubt aware that there are serious challenges raised before her election on the sustainability to run for elective office in view of the unresolved concerns relating to her integrity. The matter remains unresolved to date,” it adds.

On Monday this week, a day after King Kaka released Wajinga Nyinyi on YouTube and other social media platforms, Waiguru threatened to take legal action against him.

In a demand letter through lawyer Paul Kiragu Wathuta, she accused the musician of uttering allegations and innuendos against her.

She claimed that this resulted in gross misrepresentation of facts and deliberate mischaracterization of her conduct.

The letter cited the following lyrics:

“Ati Waiguru ako kwa office na story ya NYS tulishasahau

Biro moja alibuy 8 thao, biro tunanunuanga mbao

Either sisi ndio wajinga ama ako na marking scheme ya Accau…”

The Kirinyaga County boss stated that the above lyrics implied that she is corrupt during her tenure at the helm of the Ministry of Devolution.

However, some top lawyers in the country criticized Waiguru saying artistes have every right to express themselves either through music or art.
