Waiguru hits out at Ngirici over heckling at DPs event

Waiguru hits out at Ngirici over heckling at DPs event

Deputy President William Ruto was on Friday April 6 caught up in a vicious political supremacy contest pitting Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Woman Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici.

DP Ruto was in the county to commission the construction of several roads, but the events were marred with heckling and shouting matches between rival supporters of Waiguru and Ngirici.

So fiery was the heckling that none of the Kirinyaga leaders were allowed to address the meetings, with Ruto taking charge.

Following the incident, Governor Waiguru has since sent a statement terming the events as unfortunate and lacking development interest for the people Kirinyaga.

“A very unfortunate incident was witnessed in Kerugoya; Kirinyaga County during an official visit by His Excellency Deputy President William Ruto on April 6, 2018 where a few goons hired by the County Women Representative Purity Ngirici and Andrew Ngirici made attempts to disrupt the meeting,” read the statement in part.

In her statement, the Kirinyaga Governor noted that it was selfish for politicians to disrupt a meeting aimed at bringing development in Kirinyaga and improving the living conditions of the people of Kirinyaga.

“This is an archaic style of politics that prides itself in ensuring the people remain in an impoverished state so that they can wholly depend on handouts from politicians. We cannot allow this kind of politics in Kirinyaga,” said Governor Waiguru.

“On behalf of the people of Kirinyaga, I wish to convey my sincere apologies to His Excellency Deputy President William Ruto for the embarrassing incident witnessed on Friday and promise that such scenes will not happen again.” she added

Ngirici however denies Waiguru’s claims further urging her to report the matter to the police.

Ngirici insists that she should also present the evidence linking her to the heckling.

DP Ruto was in Kirinyaga on Friday to commission the upgrading to bitumen standard and maintenance of Njegas-Kangaita and Kiaga-Mukinduri roads as part of Jubilee government’s plan to expand infrastructure network in the country.

In his address, DP Ruto also condemned the incident calling on Kirinyaga leader to desist from engaging in political battles and support Governor Waiguru to achieve her agenda for the county.

“I don’t want to hear that in Kirinyaga there is politics of hate and insults. Time for politics is over, now it is time for development.” said DP Ruto
