Waiguru launches road works program in Kirinyaga

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has launched an ambitious road works program in the county which has been reeling from poor road infrastructure.

Waiguru commissioned the construction of a 217-kilometre stretch of murram roads in the county for the financial year 2018-2013.

This was after receiving and flagging off road Ksh.200 million works equipment including grazers, excavators, bulldozers and trucks.

The machinery comprised of five graders, 10 trucks, two excavators, one bulldozer, rollers to one crane, two supervision pickups, one backhoe, one prime mover and low bed, one wheel loader and water bowser.

Speaking on Wednesday, the governor expressed confidence that the move will accelerate the county’s economic growth.

“The sorry state of roads will be a thing of the past in my tenure. Today we begin the Kirinyaga Rising Road Works Project, it will not be easy but we will achieve it,” she said.

Waiguru assured residents that her pledge during last year’s campaigns, to fix all dilapidated roads in the county, would be fulfilled.

“At the end of the day, your word is your bond and as leaders we will be measured against our pledges. However, it is more than that, it’s what the people of Kirinyaga deserve and its’ their right,” Waiguru added.

It is the first phase to be rolled out and will be followed by another in the 2019-2020 financial year.
