Waiguru loses over 300 supporters to incumbent

War of words between Kirinyaga Governor, Joseph Ndathi, and former Devolution Cabinet Secretary, Ann Waiguru, who wants to unseat him has taken a new shift after a section of Waiguru’s supporters decamped.

A week after the two clashed at a prayer rally at Wang’uru Stadium, Waiguru has accused Governor Ndathi of misappropriating public funds.

On Saturday, March 11, over 300 supporters of Ms Waiguru, led by her coordinator – Mwangi Witu, withdrew their support from her accusing her of inability to lead Kirinyaga County.

“Her performance in the Devolution Ministry was minimal as most of the work we can see was done by President Uhuru Kenyatta,” said Mr Mwangi.

“Waiguru’s tenure at Ministry of Devolution resulted in wastage of resources. We had lost our way by supporting her but now we are back home.”

On the other hand, Waiguru’s running mate, Peter Ndambiri, dismissed the defections saying that they are enemies of development and this will not deter her from clinching the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat.

Mr Ndathi and Ms Waiguru are set to face off in the Jubilee nominations set for next month.
