Waiguru talks tough as EACC begins probing alleged corruption amid impeachment bid

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru insists that partisan MCAs or other people pushing political agendas for their masters must not be allowed to detract those in leadership.

She was responding to reports that the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission has begun investigations into alleged graft at the county government.

“I sincerely and most gladly welcome EACC or any other independent investigative organ to Kirinyaga County to probe any malfeasance at the executive and at the County Assembly,” she said.

According to her, independent and objective investigations will reveal where integrity at the county is abused and who has abused their offices.

She further insisted that at the moment, her priority as county boss is on preventive measures against the spread of coronavirus.

In a previous statement, Waiguru accused MCAs of being hellbent on political brinkmanship by filing a motion to impeach her over alleged corruption.

She termed the move as ‘petty and frivolous’ and insinuated that the MCAs’ ultimate intention was to make her concede to illegal requests for tenders and money.

“There is not a single indication of personal benefit to me, my relatives or friends. They are just thrown there for publicity and propaganda,” the statement reads.

“As for those pulling strings from outside the County Assembly because of the 2022 politics, time will find you out.”

On Sunday, Waiguru said she is looking forward to speedy conclusion of the investigations and will not be detracted from implementing her mandate.
