Waiguru wants Kabura charged with swearing false affidavit
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru wants Josephine Kabura, one of the key suspects in the first NYS scandal, charged with swearing a false affidavit.
This comes after Kabura and nine other of her co-accused were Tuesday charged with an additional count of money laundering over the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.
The particulars on the additional count were that between December 1, 2014 and May 30, 2015 in Nairobi, the three accused persons engaged in an arrangement for the transfer of Ksh. 90million into K-rep Bank Account belonging to Patrick Ogolla Onyango T/A Ogola and company Advocates.
This, according to Prosecution, they did while knowing or ought to have known the said money was the proceeds of crime, stolen from NYS.
Reacting to the fresh charging of Kabura, Governor Waiguru said: “This took a while… It’s been a long time coming..but here it is!”
“May justice be our shield and defender. Still waiting for her to be charged for swearing a false affidavit and charges against her promoters,” said Waiguru.
Last year, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) wrote to the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji informing him that the affidavit sworn by Kabura on the NYS scandal in 2016 had no evidence backing it.
In the said affidavit, Kabura had accused Waiguru and other senior government officials of masterminding the alleged theft of Ksh.791 million from NYS through questionable tenders.
The Kirinyaga Governor also wants Kabura to be compelled to expose the people behind the affidavit that was found to be false.
Waiguru has several times requested EACC to probe Kabura’s affidavit and has been on record asking the anti-graft body to make known the results of that investigation.
While EACC cleared Waiguru of any wrongdoing in the NYS scandal, she says she believes there were more powerful people behind the NYS scandal, and wants the anti-graft body to unmask those who took part directly or indirectly and drafted the Kabura affidavit.
