Waiguru’s name was deleted from EACC ‘list of shame’ – Raila

Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader, Raila Odinga, has alleged that Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru’s name was purposely deleted from the ‘list of shame’ released by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission in March this year.

Speaking at a rally in Kibera, Raila claimed that Waiguru’s name was previously included in the list of alleged corrupt officials prepared by EACC but was deleted due to her close proximity to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“They called me a liar when I said that Waiguru’s name was in the original list of corrupt government officials released by EACC due to under dealing at the National Youth Service (NYS) department and the Ministry of Devolution,” said Odinga.

The ODM party leader claimed that the list that was originally submitted to the President is different from what President Kenyatta tabled in Parliament, which was doctored in order to keep Waiguru’s name off.

He said if his remarks on Waiguru were defamatory he should have been taken to court, adding that the latest move by Waiguru to suspend junior officials over the alleged fraud at the Devolution Ministry is equal to targeting small fish instead of the big ones.

Raila called on the Auditor General to investigate Anne Waiguru and the Ministry for Devolution in connection to corruption at the ministry and the NYS department.

“The government said it does not have money to pay teachers, who want only Sh17 billion yet Sh50 billion cannot be accounted for,” said the CORD leader.

He called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to comply with the court ruling, like he did after the 2013 election dispute where he was announced winner.

CORD had filed a petition at the Supreme Court following reports of malpractice in the 2013 elections, which was dismissed on technical grounds and for being time-barred.

Raila’s remarks come days after Waiguru admitted to fraudulent transactions that made the ministry lose close to Sh791 million.

Waiguru said that recommendations made after an investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations had called for the prosecution of 21 officials in the ministry over fraud.
