Waititu allowed to pick Ksh.15M bail, cites financial constraints

A Nairobi court has allowed embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu to substitute his cash bail of Ksh.15 million with a surety of a similar amount.

This was after he pleaded with court saying that he is financially overwhelmed and needs the cash bail to meet daily obligations.

The Kiambu Governor on Thursday posted a matching surety according to the terms of orders issued on July 30 this year.

This means that the Ksh.15 million cash that was deposited in court will be released to Waititu.

Governor Waititu and his wife Susan Wangari are facing corruption-related charges.

They are accused of receiving over Ksh. 25million from Testimony Enterprises Limited, a company that the Kiambu County Government awarded contracts.

They are also facing a joint charge of dealing with suspect property.

They were accused that being proprietors of Bienvenue Delta Hotel, they jointly received over Ksh. 7million from Testimony Enterprises Limited through corrupt means.

They however denied the charges.

His wife and four other county officials were directed to deposit Ksh. 4million cash bail each and bond of Ksh. 10million each or surety of a similar amount.
