Waititu: Why I dont trust Raila handshake deal

Outspoken Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu has maintained that Opposition leader Raila Odinga cannot be trusted.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Power Breakfast Show, Waititu said when he worked with Odinga as the then PM and he as Water and Irrigation Assistant Minister, the PM would frequently go back on his word.

Waititu defended his statements saying he was not trying to water down the recent unity deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the former Premier but to warn Kenyans of the latter’s ‘real’ character.

“We should speak the truth at all times, I was just cautioning other leaders against him,” said Waititu

The Governor first expressed his sentimens during a church event 10 days ago.

In regards to the tussle between him and his deputy James Nyoro, Waititu said Kiambu will not go the Nairobi way.

He was referring to the resignation of Polycarp Igathe as Nairobi Deputy Governor following alleged differences between him and his boss Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

Waititu, who acknowledged existing differences between him and his deputy, said their row is based on differences in approach to issues, which is normal in any professional relationship.

“We agree and disagree sometimes, and that happened even during campaign. We don’t have to agree throughout but the most important thing is that we move together,” said Waititu.

The Kiambu Governor however admitted to not consulting his deputy on the recent reshuffle of his Cabinet claiming that he was not in the country at the time.

The reshuffle has apparently caused even more tension between the two county leaders but Waititu sought to assure Kiambu residents that their leadership is intact and focused on serving them.
