Wajir Governor Mohamed Mohamud impeached

Wajir Governor Mohamed Mohamud has been impeached over allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office and financial impropriety.

Thirty-seven MCAs voted in favour of the impeachment motion while 10 opposed his removal from office.

The County Assembly Speaker is now expected to formally communicate the impeachment of the Governor to Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka.

It will then be determined whether Governor Mohamud’s fate will be determined by a committee or the entire House.

The Governor has since dismissed the allegations cited in the impeachment motion, accusing his political rivals of being behind the push to eject him from office
