Wako Opposes Dissolution Of Makueni County

Speaking to journalists in Busia, the senator says leaders accused of wrongdoing should be given a chance to be heard as provided by the constitution to ensure the right action is taken.

Wako has instead urged county governments to resolve their differences amicably to ensure unity among county residents instead of taking drastic actions.

This comes even as Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana launched a signature collection drive to have the president suspend the county amid a bitter leadership row pitting him against Makueni county assembly members.

The Senate Devolution Committee on Tuesday also opposed plans to dissolve Makueni County government.

The committee chaired by Senator Kipchumba Murkomen instead urged Makueni leaders to hold dialogue and resolve their differences.

Murkomen added that the committee has summoned Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana to appear before it on 14th October to shed more light on the wrangles between him and county assembly members.

He will be followed a day later by members of the Makueni County Assembly.

Others summoned to appear before the committee are the county’s Controller of Budget who is expected on the 15th October in the afternoon while other parties have been invited to appear on the 16th October 2014.

The inquiry is scheduled to last three days before the senators compile a report and present it before Senate for consideration.

Makueni County was in the news a week ago after five people were shot and injured during a clash between Kibwana's supporters and security personnel.
