Wamalwa, Wetangula put differences aside to champion voter registration

Water Cabinet Secretary Water and Irrigation Eugene Wamalwa and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula have raised concern over the low voter registration being recorded countrywide.

Wamalwa and Wetangula are now appealing to leaders from Western Kenya region to mobilize residents to register during the ongoing exercise being conducted by IEBC.

Speaking at different events in Bungoma County, the two leaders vowed to put their differences aside and mobilize residents to come out and register as voters before the 15th March deadline.

They further appealed to Members of Parliament and MCAs in the region to skip assembly sessions to ensure people register as voters, with Bungoma only registering 19,000 people as voters.

“I want to urge leaders to join together and put aside their political differences to mobilize people to register as voters,” said Water CS Eugene Wamalwa, adding that the area has a high number of unregistered eligible voters.

On his part, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula said: “The figures so far shown in the first half of the registration are unimpressive. There is either apathy or uncoordinated process that is not getting people out to register.”
