Wambora dismisses EACC graft report ranking Embu as 2nd most corrupt county

Embu County Governor Martin Wambora has dismissed the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) findings that ranked his county as the second most corrupt in the country.

Wambora says the parameters used by the EACC to come to the conclusion were not under the county’s devolved functions, but the national government.

He says traffic, ID registration, birth registrations and others functions were not devolved at the time the research was conducted and that county officers were not involved.

Affirming his resolve to fight graft in his jurisdiction, Wambora says his government will set up traps nab corrupt individuals within the county. To this end, he has asked for cooperation from the county residents.

On Tuesday, the National Ethics and Corruption Survey 2015, released by EACC, said county government departments perceived to be most prone to corruption include the health department at 29.1%, the Land and Physical planning docket at 14.3% and the Public Service Board at 11.3%.

According to the survey, actual bribery incidents dropped from a high of 5.83% (Uasin Gishu County) in 2012 to 2.53% (Embu County) in 2015.

Embu County is followed by Kisii County at 2.43% and Bomet at 2.24%.

According to the findings, the average bribe per county has gone up from Ksh20,075 in 2012 to Ksh80,000 in 2015.
